The adventures of one woman on an epic quest to achieve her life’s ambitions by her 40th birthday

Upcoming Big Week! (WS #15)

The past week has been busy and almost all-consuming with the book. I have taken a few breaks here and there to get my head cleared when I start feeling overwhelmed with it, but otherwise, every free moment is either working on the book, making dinner for me and the Chief or sleeping.

The level of obsessiveness about it is kind of alarming, actually. I wonder if other writers are like this when they’re knee deep in the story.

In other news, big things are on the horizon for me. PS: no pics again this time… I’m behind on my chapters right now.

A Big Giant Oops

someecards.com - You do the math. No, seriously, do the math, I'm terrible with numbers. I did my math wrong in that last post. I thought I had lost a total of 36 pounds. I was wrong…

Re-checked the math this morning because something about it wasn’t sitting right with me.

Turns out, I’m down 37.5 pounds.

Leave it to me to screw up simple mathematics! At least I underestimated…

Weekly Snapshots #12-14

I know, I know… I skipped the last two weeks and am late this week.

Technically, I wrote a post for 12 and 13 that I thought I published. Instead, I hit “save draft” and didn’t check to see if it had posted (I was running late for something). So, technically, I did write a post last week… I just didn’t actually publish it. Also, because I have so much to update and not a lot of time (I’m staying up late to get this done), I’m not bothering with pictures on this one.

I apologize deeply for that. Not that I think you all love the e-cards so much, but because now you have a horrible wall of text staring at you and nothing colorful or amusing to break it up. I’ll do better next post–my priority here is just getting it done. I’ve been a busy girl. What can I say?

There was an interesting piece of good news in all of this, though: In the past, the reason I would most likely have skipped a snapshot is because I had gone off the wagon or had no good news to report. That’s not what happened this time. I had good news to share (and still do) and I am still firmly on the wagon.

On to the snapshot!

Weekly Snapshot #11

someecards.com - I hope your Ides of March goes better than Caesar's. This was a big week…

The Chief, after 44 days of consecutive leave, returned to work and reported to his new command. This is FANTASTIC because it gives me a chance to stop being so snippy at him (we’ll get more into this later in the update).

I, on the other hand, have spent almost every day at this computer. Or in some corner of the house going over the editing copy of my manuscript and marking it all up with notes and additions and subtractions and…

… I have to say, it was pretty difficult to tear myself away from all that to get to today’s snapshot.

But, here we are! Let’s do this…

Going Back to Move Forward

someecards.com - Today, I write ALL THE THINGS.I didn’t want to go back and start editing before I got to the The End. In fact, if you’ve been following along for any length of time, you know that I’ve been strenuously avoiding going back and touching a single word I’d previously written, no matter how crappy it is.

Today (technically last night and well into the early hours of this morning), I find myself back at the beginning and making some fairly drastic edits.

In some ways, it feels like I’m regressing, but in many more ways I believe this is the best thing.

Why the change? The answer to that is two-fold.

Around the Web

If you look up recipes around the paleo/primal sphere, you will absolutely run into people swearing up and down that mashed cauliflower is an awesome substitute for mashed potatoes. Well, I don’t know about you, but I had TERRIBLE luck trying to replicate their seemingly effortless results. Every time I made them, they tasted alright [...]

Ok, I admit, it’s a little bit of a dud recipe. Salad dressing? Seriously? Yes, seriously. Do you have any idea how hard it is to go to a store and find a salad dressing that doesn’t contain sugar, honey, pretend sugar, soy, or some other grain product that isn’t part of my diet plan? [...]

I love collards, but I am not a really big fan of the way many southerners tend to boil the ever living crap out of them. This recipe from Skinny Taste may just be the answer. I’d probably add some onions as well because I’m like that and I add onions to just about everything. [...]

Just another one of those “finding something new to do with cucumbers” recipes. You know, for being such a simple veggie, there sure do seem to be a TON of really delicious looking things to do with them. I may have to push the hubster into adding cukes to next year’s garden.

Sometime last week, I posted a little something from LitReactor about five ways we sabotage ourselves. Well, here are five MORE ways. Yep, we are really into messing things up for ourselves.
